This project takes its point of departure in the debate about prostitution. Prostitutes allegedly suffer harm in their way of employment, and this project seeks to highlight these harms and questions whether or not government legislation is justified in interfering to prevent these harms. We have throughout the project concentrated on paternalism and anti-paternalism, in the effort to bring about a more nuanced picture to the discussion of prostitution laws. Our discussion is focused on autonomy, value-theory and preferences of individuals, in relation to beneficence and autonomy, and we end up taking a moderate view of the debate, ruling out the extremes of paternalism and anti-paternalism, and instead recognizing the methodological problem of justifying an abolition of prostitution.
