Studenteropgave: Semesterprojekt

This report addresses problems regarding Participatory Design, made with marginalized users on the edge of society. It specific covers this area, through the attempt to design a smartphone application for a drug treatment center. The purpose of the app is to give young cannabis users, from the center, insight in the amount of cannabis they smoke, and through that attain reflection. The participants in the design process, is a small design team from Roskilde University, consultants and young cannabis users from the center. In combination of, prototyping, evolutionary development and the MUST method, the project aims to create a Participatory Design process, with the users from the center. As the project develops, the user group of young cannabis smokers shoves to be a difficult target group, too involved and in the process. Instead of making knowledge on Participatory Design with these marginalized users, through a design process, the knowledge is constructed from analyzing the experiences of numerous, unsuccessful, attempts of get in engaged with these users. The key conclusions presented in this report are: The cannabis users belong to a certain user group, which is not reached by the ordinary Participatory Design literature. In the attempt to get these users involved in the process, one of the most important preconditions is to have a good personal relation to the young users.
