Abstract: The aim of this thesis is to determine whether organoid transplantation is a better treatment than current treatments in patients with Crohn’s disease Background: Cases of inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) have been increasing in prevalence in the Western world. Crohn’s disease is one of the more severe IBDs, which could potentially lead to disablement. The project summarized the current epidemiology of Crohn's disease and the factors of the disease’s onset and development. Problem definition: Crohn’s disease and the current treatment therapies. Could organoid transplantation be a new way to treat Crohns patients in the future? Method: Through a literary study, we will gain a better understanding of Crohn’s disease. Our focus will be on the hypothesis that the cause of Crohn’s disease has to do with overactive T-cells. We will further provide an insight into the intestinal anatomy and understand whereabouts of the Crohn’s disease and how it affects the intestines. In addition to this, the most used treatments for Crohn's disease and their effectiveness. Fi-nally, organoids characteristics and their possible use in treatment of Crohns disease will be analyzed. Conclusion: It can be concluded that organoid transplantation could be an effective treatment of Crohn’s patients, espe-cially for those who have the disease manifested in the large intestine. On the other hand, it is questionable whether this treatment is effective alone since Crohn's and other inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD), are known to also be due to genetic susceptibility, luminal microbial antigens and adjuvants, immune response and environmental factors.
