Studenteropgave: Semesterprojekt

This project concerns the ongoing wave of revolts in the Middle East and Northern Africa focusing especially on Egypt. The theoretical approach is primarily based upon Niklas Luhmann’s system theories. Democratization theory will be used to analyze and discuss what problems may occur due to the process towards democratization in Egypt. Furthermore will Max Weber’s theories about ideal types be used. Due to the complexity of the project it is difficult to make one overall conclusion, but from a Luhmann point of view the main conclusion is that Egypt’s many subsystems contains elements from the functional differentiation type, which caused the system in Egypt to break down. With the aspect of democratization in Egypt, different factors like the media, the time of a future election and the transition from a traditional system to a new, play a prominent role.
