This report is based on the experience that occurs before the actual experience of the performance in a theatre. The experience of how a foyer in a theatre presents itself for the audience both concerning the aesthetic and the physical elements. The report will be heavily influenced by the fact that Aveny-T is looking to expand their already existing foyer into a somewhat greater and more modern versions of what it is now. That is why the report seeks to investigate what kind of actions Aveny-T need to incorporate into their foyer areas before the expansion, to improve the experience for their audience before the coming experience of the performance. The report outlines the cases, methods and theories that were used to gain insight into what, why and how a foyer should and could look like, which aesthetic and physical means need to be implemented to achieve that goal and how the visitors of the theatre perceive the foyers.
For achieving this goal we have used several theorists such as Gernot Böhme for aesthetics and atmospheres, Richard Schechner and Michael Eigtved for the concept gathering and performance studies and Steinar Kvale and Svend Brinkmann for observations and inspiration to the questions for the interviews gathered.
Furthermore it will elaborate on why the aesthetic and physical design of Aveny-T’s foyer is more or less not suitable for their audience to stay in for a longer period of time. By comparing Aveny-T with the two other theatres Mungo Park (housed in Allerød) and Riddersalen (housed at Frederiksberg) and their way of making their foyer a more comfortable and delightful place for their audience to stay in, it is presented what they (Aveny-T) as a theatre can do to make their foyer more suitable for their audience to stay in. In this regard the report will present a line of suggestions as to how Aveny-T could enhance their foyer for the benefits of their audience. This includes suggestions of signage, lighting, colors and other aesthetic and physical aspects that will enhance their foyer.
