This paper focuses on online flirting as one of flirting forms. The main purpose of our research is to examine language used in online flirting, in other words to find out what can be considered as characteristics of this kind of language. In order to reach this aim we have analysed three online conversations (cases) written in Danish, which have been sent to us by three Danish heterosexual pairs between age 20 and 30. Two of the conversations are from the social networking site Facebook and one is from the dating app Tinder. We have examined what kind of speech acts are used in the online chats and how other elements, such as humor and emoticons, function within these chats. With this paper we conclude that in the analysed online conversations dominate speech acts which have a contact function (kontakthandlinger). We also point out that the way the persons have used humor and emoticons in the chats is related to the way they reflect their own personality.
