Examining sick care possibilities and restrictions for adequate description of praxis and opportunities for development, this thesis investigates the concrete praxis, as it is unfolded in a medical department of a hospital. Participatory observation and qualitative interviews constitute the empirical basis of the thesis, that a systematic approach and a flexible latitude in each situation is reciprocally conditional for development, in a praxis characterised by differentiations and dependencies. The department’s patients and staffs experiences of problems in the daily life of sick care are phenomenologically analysed and further explored through a critical psychological analysis of praxis. In search of sick cares opportunities for development, critical psychological reformulations and proposals for conceptualisations of the praxis is made - on the basis of the critical analysis of the consequences of technical rational methods for current organisation of sick care. The thesis implies the critique, that technical rational methods does not capture the sick cares coherence between the particular and the standard, as this situational relevancy is displayed in the analysis as the centre for the functioning of praxis.
