This project is about the printed and the digital media, and which consequences the printed media is experiencing, because of its decline in editions and ad loss to the digital media. In an investigation of the consequences, towards the digital news orientation, there will in this assignment be a great focus on the journalist as an intermediary of knowledge towards society. The specific questions, we examine in this paper, are how the change is affecting the writing journalist, and what it means for the quality of the news in a digital era. To answer these questions we have done some interviews with the editor of the websection of Politiken, a counselor and caseworker from Dansk Journalist Forbund and with one working journalist from Ekstra Bladets online section. These interviewees interact in a way, which gives us an insight into our main issues regarding this assignment. We seek to investigate the role of the writing journalists new role and furthermore achieve a greater understanding by working with the editorial director and the counselor from Dansk Journalist Forbund. We analyze our qualitative interviews by using two theories; with Anthony Giddens we’re using his concept of the late modernity consequences, and by using Joshua Meyrowitz theory we’re looking at the forms of communication. Regarding our treatment of the term quality, we discovered that it could be understood in many different ways and it can therefore be concluded that the quality is not in decline. The quality is adjusting to the new digital media that indicates a shift where the common press is downsized on behalf of a segmented press, and where the markets circumstances are getting a greater influence. Journalism is transforming where the users of it are getting a greater amount of influence in the role of dissemination.
