This project is focused on examining the concepts of nudging and power with a perspective of the ethical issues there may arise in this context. The project is based on a case, in which the municipality of Copenhagen, through the use of a Nudging campaign “Ren Kærlighed til København”, are experimenting with changing citizens’ behaviour into using trashcans in the public space. The project is primarily focusing on the “green footprints” in the pavement, which characterizes some parts of the Copenhagen cityscape. The project contains an analysis and examination of different theoretical definitions of the concepts nudging, power and ethics. Furthermore, the project will include our reasons of choice, for the use of 2 chosen science theoretical directions, namely Phenomenology and Hermeneutics. Empirically the study is based on qualitative semi-structured interviews. These interviews are based on three respondents, all of which come with their subjective opinion of the campaign launched by Copenhagen municipality. In the Conclusion of this project we consider, that the Copenhagen municipality’s use of nudging, with the purpose of obtaining a cleaner city through changing behaviour of it’s citizens, is an expression for the use of especially bureaucratic power. However, we believe that the power does not display any specific ethical challenges in our chosen case.
