Normalization and Punk In this project we examine normalization towards subcultures, through our casework with punk and specifically danish punk in the period 1977-82. We analyzed the case with a phenomenological methodology and through our theoretical framework; the Marxist influenced Birminghamschool which in depth have constructed theories about subcultures and supplemented with other theories. Our theories stated that subcultures exists because of flaws in society. In our analysis of this micro scale of society we concluded that the normalization process against punk was of a negative character, because it caused a radicalization of the remaining subculture. Through an inductive analysis of the consequences of normalization we concluded that society needs to reconsider the way it performs normalization to avoid creating a potential threat towards its stability.
