This project deals with New Public Management's influence on reorganizing and implementing management tools in the Prison and Probation Service. The elaboration of this project takes basis in a hypothesis, there is to be found initiatives inspired by New Public Management in the reformation of the Prison and Probation Service. The hypothesis provides a basis for the answering of the problem formulation. In which areas are it possible to identify New Public Managements tendencies in the social workers tasks and how does these tendencies take form in the Multiannual Agreement 2013- 2016 for the Prison and Probation Service? It is examined how efficiency measures in the Multiannual Agreement provided for the Prison and Probation Service has affected the working methods. It analyzes how the RNR-model is used in the social worker's tasks. The model is one of the initiatives mentioned in the Multiannual Agreement which is characterized by New Public Management. It is a tool for standardization. It is examined how the Prison and Probation Service management has implemented the model. It is given by the analysis how the management changes social workers’ incentive to the tasks and the controlled workflow. The supervision is guaranteed in both the Prison and Probation Services’ white book concerning the Multiannual Agreement and the handbook on the use of the RNR-model, with compulsory training in the RNR-model for the social workers. The foundation for improving the efficiency in the Prison and Probation Service is also investigated. It is due to the former Finance Minister Claus H. Frederiksen’s desire to create a comprehensive budget analysis of the Prison and Probation Service’s economy. The science studies takes basis in critical theory - specifically focusing on the colonization of the lifeworld. At last it will conclude that there is found several initiatives in the reorganization of the Prison and Probation Service that proves greatly inspired by tendencies know from New Public Management. This has its effect both in the implementation of the RNR-model and the administration of the Prison and Probation Service’s work. New Public Management-tendencies can be found both on the micro-, meso- and macro-level in the Prison Service and Ministry of Justice’s management of mentioned.
