The following project will examine how the discrepancy between New Public Management(NPM) and policing, influence the work life of the officers in the danish police force. The foundation of the project is based on interviews with five officers and a leader, located in different districts. To analyse and discuss the issues at hand we have included theoretical material about meaningfulness at work (“Mening i arbejdet”) and the coping theory by Hochschild. Based on our findings we conclude that it is difficult to unite NPM and policing, when trying to create and maintain meaningfulness at work. This leads to all the officers expressing different ways of coping in order to maintain a meaningful worklife. Despite the fact that the officers use copingmechanisms. Furthermore we can conclude that there is not enough time og possibilities to cope during the day.
