Abstrakt

Karakter: 12. The master thesis ‘Naturvidenskab i en Digital Tidsalder – kommunikation af fagligt indhold i en gymnasial kontest’ focuses on how a digital learning resource, sustainable.dk’s, communication affects the learning of high school students in the obligatory first semester introductory course to natural sciences - and if there is room for improvement. A pilot project of sustainable.dk started at Ørestad Gymnasium in late October 2011 and this high school is therefore chosen as a case to illustrate the resource’s use in practice. In this context the thesis uses a qualitative method to collect data. 14 students and one teacher have been interviewed about their view upon sustainable.dk. The thesis has a social constructivist point of departure. In this sight students build up the understanding of the world through communication with others, and knowledge and learning is therefore depended on the specific situation the individual find oneself in. The thesis put up a theoretical framework of how education is seen as the communication of information that the recipients decode and, on the basis of the social context, construct knowledge (if the communicative selection is successful). Through theories of ‘digital learning resources’ and ‘school 2.0’ it is clarified how sustainable.dk’s ‘communicative selection’ fulfill the students’ fundamental expectations to learning resources in the education of natural sciences. But sustainable.dk does not include interactive technologies and is seen as static by the students. The levels of embedded assignments are found within the ‘zone of proximal development’ so that students are able to solve them in ‘communities of practice’, and the assignments cover the three orders of learning, ‘qualifications, competences and creativity’, to a certain extent. A big problem with the resource’s communication is that the students cannot identify or relate to the content because it does not connect ‘formal and informal learning’. The missing link between institutional learning and the student’s informal context in the communicative selection can be improved by putting focus on learning through different experiences and having students in the center as active knowledge producers, where the teaching is differentiated.
