Studenteropgave: Semesterprojekt

This project deals with a study of the impact of narratives on urban spaces. The report is based on the findings of the project 'Det Velfungerende Byrum?', which points to narratives, place identity and a belonging to urban space which constructs and affects urban spaces. We have been working with this in mind, trying to get an understanding of narratives in general and of the overall narrative of Vesterbros Torv. This report is built on the action research method “fremtidsværksted”. We have used the method to gather empirical knowledge, which will be analyzed through usage of narrative theory and Kirsten Simonsen’s understanding of the narrative and bodily city. Furthermore, we have discussed the complexity and variety of narratives of Vesterbros Torv and the relation between narratives and the physical environment in a given urban space. Finally we present our understandings of narratives and how this understanding can be useful in city planning processes.
