Studenteropgave: Semesterprojekt

This Thesis examines the Technological Foresight on nanotechnology, conducted by the Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and development from an epistemological perspective. The Thesis analyses what forms of knowledge the foresight holds as relevant to nanotechnology, and examines whether some forms of knowledge are more present than others. The thesis consists of three parts. Part one asserts that technology has become a significant social, economic and cultural factor and therefore has drawn the attention of politicians and planners. The foresight on nanotechnology is an example of political attempts to plan technological development. Part two examines the relationship between technology and knowledge. This is done through a historical analysis and an examination of the difference between scientific and technological knowledge. Part three is an analysis of the Technological foresight. This consists of a “reading” of the foresight and an analysis based on this reading, and the results and concepts from part two. The thesis concludes that the foresights conception of nanotechnology is dominated by knowledge from the natural sciences, but also that the foresight strives to integrate knowledge from commercial actors in order to bring nanotechnology into use.
