The overall purpose of this paper is to illustrate how there is communicated about humanitarian aid with the purpose of fund-raising and how this has changed over time.
Firstly there will be an account for humanitarian aid since 1863 until modern times. This will be followed by an analysis that contains a historical source-critical analysis and a semiological analysis. The analysis is based on four selected humanitarian aid subtitles which represent two different times in history - the 1980’s and the 2010’s.
The analysis will afterwards be included in a discussion involving different aspect of development in humanitarian aid communication and how the subtitles appeal to the different ethical values among the receivers.
The conclusion of this project is that there on certain points has been a development in the communication about humanitarian aid, however there are still several equalities in the means used both communicative and ethical.
