This project deals with the relative strength between the local representative democracy and nærdemokrati, in relation to particularly Silkeborg municipal and the local council Sejs-Svejbæk, which both are selected as cases. The project is based on theory dealing with democracy, and thus contains several theoretical approaches which have to do with democracy, all of which is used in a local context. Focus has been on three different democratic approaches: competitive democracy, participatory democracy and stakeholder democracy. In addition, the project also focuses on the relationship between the size of municipalities and local democracy. In terms of method, a document study is used as the approach to select the empirical data, and thus it is the formal level which mainly is being analyzed over in this project. The analysis is staged and starts at a general level, and then moves to the more specific plan, in relation to the selected problem. The project ends out concluding, that nærdemokrati is not strengthened to any great extend compared with the local representative democracy, in spite of strong support for this, both from the politicians and from the citizens.
