Moralsk integritet og muslimske tørklæder

Morten Nikolajsen

Studenteropgave: Semesterprojekt

In the light of a recent case about discrimination in the workplace, this project asks whether it is a moral problem to demand that employees appear religiously neutral, and, if so, for which reason is it a problem. The project then examines two different approaches to the question of accommodation of religious minorities. According to the first, equal treatment ensures that people have the same options. Whatever people choose to do within these rules is up to them. Therefore, it is claimed, special arrangements to accommodate religious beliefs are not justified by justice. I, however, reject this notion. Instead, I propose that religious accommodation is justified on the grounds that religious conduct is necessary for the integrity of the religious person. I, therefore, conclude that it is a moral problem to demand employees to appear religiously neutral.
