This report aims at investigating the Sustainable Development (SD) in Mongolia, by looking at it in a perspective of the overall household waste treatment and disposal. By using constraints of SD, based on a theory by Hartmut Bossel, and indicators on SD set up by the CSD, this report will analyze if the rapid growth in Mongolia is in the favor of SD. The report is based on two cases as representatives of the diversified Mongolia; Ulaanbaatar and the Hovsgol Aimag. The theory of Protected Areas will be used as an indicator on how the classification Nationalpark cat.II is suited as a tool to ensure SD in ecological vulnerable areas. Through fieldstudy and qualitative methods the report concludes that Mongolia’s rapid growth is not yet sustainable, but by few indicators are on their way. The analyses can not be used as an overall conclusion on SD in Mongolia. The theory and analysis is useful in further work that aims on measuring SD in other sectors in Mongolia.
