Studenteropgave: Semesterprojekt

Abstract This project examines the thoughts and writings of renaissance philosopher Pico, who is known for his 900 theses on philosophy, religion, natural philosophy and magic. In continuation of this he also wrote the oration on the dignity of man, which is widely regarded as a key text of the renaissance humanism. Thus we will seek to uncover what Pico meant when referring to the dignity of man. We will also delve into the question of Pico’s faith, and how his views differed from the church as it was. Furthermore, we will uncover ways in which these thoughts and writings have made an impact on society today, from the humans rights document, to western thinking in general. Analyzing both Pico's writings and the sources from whom he drew his inspiration gave us an unique look into this remarkable young man's world and his core beliefs and let us see which of his thoughts live on to-day and which of them don't.
