This project deals with the use of the human body in modern danish literature. In this project we want to examine how the human body is presented in both poetry collections and in an extensive novel. We will be working with the danish literary titels “JEG ÆDER MIG SELV SOM LYNG. PIGESIND” by Olga Ravn, “vi rus salve” by Ursula Andkjær Olsen and Stence Andrea Lind-Valdan and “PROFETERNE I EVIGHEDSFJORDEN” by Kim Leine. All three titles relate to the human body, but even though they all deals with the human body, they do so in three different ways. These different approaches is why the titles have been chosen for this project. Firstly, our project deals with describing the way that each titles perceives the body. Within this part of the project we will account for the theory of abjection by Julia Kristeva, a theory that we will later use when comparing the titles’ use of the human body. Secondly we will perform a comparative analysis in order to shed light on the similarities between the texts. Thirdly, during our discussion we will explain how we interpret the messages within the texts and why we interpret them like we do. Furthermore we will consider the actuality of the titles in the current society. Lastly we will answer the definition of the problem of our project by explaining how the human body is portrayed in modern danish literature and why this focusing on the body has become relevant.
