This project examines the portrayal of evil in the danish media against the backdrop of Jim Jones and the events surrounding Jonestown, Guyana. Our source of inspiration arose from the article: “The Stigmatized Deaths in Jonestown: Finding a Locus for Grief” (2009), which was the stepping stone towards investigating the medias framing of Jim Jones and Peoples Temple, by analyzing several articles written in the danish media. We have applied the theories concerning evilness created by Lars Fr. H. Svendsen, journalism ethics defined by John C. Merril, and framing described by Robert M. Entman. With these as our source of information we have analyzed the articles by looking at the use of adjectives, repetitions, means of appeal among others which has supported our conclusions, discussions, and analyses. Furthermore we have devised some topics of discussions including terror, Fake News, ethics of duty and the incorporations of the Jonestown reference: “don’t drink the kool aid” into everyday use.
