Marketization of the basic school The report investigates the consequences of the increasing use of New Public Management initiatives in the basic schools in Copenhagen based on interviews from five schools. The results are found from a qualitative approach and supported by secondary, quantitative material. New Public Management and theory about the liquid modernity is the theoretically foundation of this report. Main results are that marketization is a visible trend in the basic school. The parents with strong social backgrounds are able to choose between the schools, which creates competition. The parents with weak social backgrounds don’t move their children. The marketization of the school therefore creates social difference in society. Inequality can become a greater problem in the future, because the school reproduces the structures in society.
