Abstrakt
In this assignment we have worked with concepts of Multiculturalism and Multicultural Education, by looking at the Danish pedagogical teaching material: Drop diskrimination. We have critically approached the teaching material based on our theoretical framework inspired by the research of Jan Kampmann and Thomas Gitz-Johansen. Through a discourse analysis, we came across several concerns, namely ethnicity, tolerance and the universality of human rights. All topics we further integrated in a discussion, which focus was on how the teaching material relates to multicultural education, as well as how it presents ethnic diversity in the Danish society. We were able to gain an understanding through our analysis and discussion of how Drop diskrimination as an educational material offers teacher and pupils educational tools to discuss, challenge and reflect on issues concerning discrimination. What we found problematic was the main focus on ethnicity, and the way it places ethnic minorities as the main category connected to discrimination. Ultimately, this results in presenting a narrow perspective on diversity and omits more diverse perspective for teachers and pupils’s educational and social understanding within the Danish Folkeskole.
