Abstrakt

In a social constructionist perspective, this project examines how male pedagogues in Danish kindergartens are positioned and how they position themselves. Additionally, the project investigates the influence of positioning, on the male pedagogues' possibilities for positioning and thus the construction of their professional identity. Through qualitative interviews and by applying the Positioning Theory proposed by Rom Harré and Luk van Langenhove and the Social Identity theory proposed by Richard Jenkin, we have examined six individuals' experiences and understandings as pedagogues - this in order to answer how male pedagogues are positioned. Furthermore, we reflect upon the implications and possible further development of the project by applying a poststructuralistic gender-related theory by Judith Butler. This in order to deconstruct the heteronormative gender discourse, which appears in the kindergardens. Finally, the project concludes that parents, who are subject to heteronormative gender discourse, contribute to the heteronormative understanding that men are potentially dangerous. The parents thus create a suspicion of male employees based on their gender, and also on a fear of pedophilia. This results in written as well as unwritten special rules that ultimately limit the male pedagogues' opportunities for positioning as well as construct their professional identity.
