In public administration, trust in-between managers and subordinates within an organization are crucial for optimizing work satisfaction and employee motivation. This goes equally of importance within home care, considering the intimate relation between the personnel and the receiver of the service, the elderly. This project has investigated the style of management at the “Hjemmeplejen Vanløse/Husum/Brønshøj” (VHB) considering whether any level of trust has been established between the employees and their supervisors and how this influences their motivation at work. Numerous interviews with both the ground-level workers and their immediate managers were conducted. These were correlated with recent public studies of welfare at VBH. In conclusion, all employees confirm the importance of trust as well as an acceptable level of control, which should not compromise independence and self-management. Motivation is a multidimensional unit and a function of both objective and subjective measures, and with proper management based on trust it is possible to navigate employees to enhanced work satisfaction and performance.
