This project is about the law of tobacco and how the regulations has been accepted and known by the population. Our focus will be the period between 2001 and 2012. The project is based on two theories, one from a politological view and one from the sociology view. These are: Professor Søren Winter’s theory of implementation and Professor Signild Vallgårda’s operationalisation of Foucault term governmentality. The theory of implementation shows the connection between the political initiatives - also known as strategies - and how these affect the citizens. Governmentality shows how the management techniques functions with the different initiatives and how self governance shows. These theories will be tested on three focus groups encompassing smokers, which we conducted ourselves. The responses will be used to give knowledge about the smokers’ point of view concerning the repressive initiatives on tobacco. In spite of these repressive initiatives on tobacco, there are a large number of smokers in Denmark. This is among other things, because of the smokers’ habits and addiction to cigarettes, and these facts are not included in the political initiatives. However, a change in the smokers’ behavior and the view on smoking has occurred. We find this change very interesting and through the project this will be further explored.
