This project is centred on an equality-bill, which was put forward by S and SF in the early spring 2011. The bill aims to increase equality between genders in boardrooms by the use of quotas (40 % female representation). We have examined the challenges related to existing legislation, issues with recruitment of new candidates and possible reactions by the trades and industries. We make use of theorist such as Albert O. Hirschman (”Exit, Voice & Loyalty”), Max Weber (theory of bureaucracy) and Pierre Bourdieu (Reproduction, fields and doxa) during the report. The theories are supplied by our own empirical study and experiences from Norway where a similar quota legislation has been exercised since 2006.
