Abstrakt

In this project it is investigated if the standard model of particle physics is well-suited for physics teaching in the Danish high school. This is done through an analysis of the textbook Universets Byggesten – Moderne Partikelfysik in regards to Jens Dolins physics skills and Edward F. Redish’s cognitive principles. Both are summarized in the report. Furthermore, a short presentation of the core concepts of the standard model is given. We find that the standard model is ill-suited for teaching in the Danish Highschool. This is due to difficulties with linking knowledge about the standard model to existing mental models, which again leads to poor development of physics skills.
