Kulturkanonen - et dannelsesprojekt?

Based upon an acquired knowledge about Pierre Bourdieu and Thomas Ziehe, this study investigates to what extend the Kulturkanon – an educational project founded on elite culture – from 2006, formed by the former minister of cultural affairs Brian Mikkelsen, theoretically has the ability to be carried out. Throughout a discourse analysis made upon an interview with Brian Mikkelsen, this paper examines how the initiative is articulated through different discourses in the attempt to be successfully implemented. A paradox appears through the discourse analysis about whether the educational project based on elite culture carefully selected by experts, can be considered as representative of an entire diverse population. Furthermore the theories by Pierre Bourdieu and Thomas Ziehe illustrates the paradox in the initiative, and thereby the validity of the educational project is weakened. The outcome of our discourse analysis combined with the adopted theories concludes that the Kulturkanon does not embrace varieties in the population. Finally the result of this study proves that the Kulturkanon as an educational project does not have the ability to be carried out successfully.
