This paper aims to specify, how a location specific interactive installation can be utilized to create awareness about local cultural institutions. We have used Roskilde Kommune’s newly started project, Kulturstrøget, as our primary focus.
Using David Hogue’s theory ‘Five Principles of Interface Design’ and Jinsop Lee’s theory ‘Designing for the five senses’ we have created an interactive installation which offers relevant information about Kulturstrøget, such as current events and opening hours. The success of this installation is assessed through the analyses of a conducted participant- and non-participant observation. The results show that the installation was partly successful in creating a positive interactive experience, but failed in creating awareness regarding Kulturstrøget and its events.
