The following communication project deals with body ideals and bodyshaming on Instagram.
These topics have been examined through Ulrikke Falchs Instagram profile. Falch aims to represent herself in a natural way, and several times she compare herself with pictures of models.
Her message is to show how beauty also is expressed.
To get an understanding of the topics we use the schools of netnography and socialconstructvism to understand how Ulrikke Falch challenge the bodyideals, what her message is and how users react to her posts. By using the theories developed by Lisbeth Klastrup, Danah Boyd, Nick Couldry, Ervin Goffman, David Marshall, Cornell Sandvoss, Robert V. Kozinets, Roland Barthes, Gitte Rose and Hans-Christian Christiansen, we highlight the basics of communication theories and social semiotics, within the field of networked publics and self-representation on social media.
We can conclude that body ideals are challenged on Ulrikke Falch’s Instagramprofile.
She publishes pictures and videos as a response to the normative body ideals. Even though we questioned if she only did reproduce the body ideal, her purpose is to spread the message that you are beautiful as you are.
