This theoretical project examines which place the human crisis has in today’s modern society.
WHO’s statement about the establishment of a grief diagnosis in 2018 was the foundation
for this paper, and a characteristic of today’s society will be used as a way of investigating
some critical theories about the workfare state and its symptoms of the individual’s failure
to thrive. Some of these involve todays’ acceleration of time, the lack of recognition, and
the demand to be more resilient. To shed light on these factors some existential theories
from Søren Kierkegaard and Marc Medina among others will point out the benefits of exploiting
the crisis as a meaningful, evolving process for the individual.
