The use of conventional manure in organic farming has to be phased out by the year 2021. This thesis examines to which extent conventional and organic manure is used, imported and exported within the Danish agriculture. By explaining how conventional manure is contributing to organic farming and making a comparison with data which shows to which extent conventional manure is being use, it becomes possible to assess the challenges and opportunities associated with the phase out strategy of conventional manure in the organic farming. This comparison enables us to analyze if and how the focus areas in the phase out strategy are taking opportunities and challenges into account. We note that the phase-out strategy in a sufficiently way is taking our concluded challenges into account. However, the phase out strategy overlooks two out of our three concluded opportunities. In that perspective it is our opinion that the phase-out strategy has to take these opportunities into consideration if a phase-out of conventional manure is to be successful.
