This project examines the representation of the transportation company DSB as environmentally preferable based on three different texts composed by DSB themselves. With this as a starting point we seek to determine the argumentation in and intention with the respective texts and establish the addressee. To account for this, the argumentation in the three texts will be studied by means of N. M. Nielsens’ analytic model that embodies on an evaluation of the pragmatic validity. The speech acts will be explained with H. P. Grice’ theory of implicatures and J. R. Searles theory of speech acts. Furthermore, the genre and addressee will be discussed. We have concluded that all three texts have more than one intention and both a direct and an indirect speech act and genre. Moreover, we have determined that the addressees in the texts, contrary to our expectation, have several similarities. The argumentation in DSB’s texts advertises driving by train because of the trains’ environmental friendliness and the general implicature is that it is pleasant to be eco-friendly.
