This paper is an in depth investigation of the discourses regarding DR3 as a public service broadcast channel. Its primary focus takes it point of departure in a broadcast of “Presselogen” produced by the Danish broadcasting company TV2 on September 14 2014. The discourses are analyzed through the prism that is the critical discourse analysis model developed by Norman Fairclough. This analysis leads to the discovery of several similar discourses, which are then put into a thematic categorization, for better overall understanding. Since the paper investigates a partly visual and partly auditive medium, the paper brings Erving Goffmans theory on theatrical performances into play. The theory addresses those interactions which occur in face-to-face communication and informs the analysis of the visual, which is of great importance to said interaction. The main discourses are also placed into an order of discourses to portray how closely related the discourses are connected. Furthermore the paper addresses the problems regarding a certain lack of judicial awareness in regards to how the problems are put into words, in relation to the recently ratified media agreement. The paper concludes that the hegemonic ideology is based in the overall question of which criteria of success is put forward by the individual person. Additionally that these descend into a subset of discourses which covers different themes ranging from segmentation, media produced ghetto circumstances, innovative versus commercial TV and the overall program schedule in regards the public service commitments.
