With our impression of Copenhagen being a life-sized city and by our numerous wanderings around the city of Copenhagen we see how individuals use coffee shops and cafés as work spaces. This observation has sharpened our curiosity for how we understand the coffee shop, what we expect from it, and how it is being characterized today. With today's opportunity, as knowledge worker, to work anywhere and anytime, it seems that work today is being more volatile than in the past. Moreover, we are curious whether the coffee shop can be characterized as a place with one specific function, or if it has multiple features. In the following you will provide an insight in what the above mentioned mean for the understanding of the coffee shop as a place. This, by involving Henri Lefebvre and Ray Oldenburg as main theorists, followed by a qualitative data collection.
