Abstrakt

Abstract
This project seeks to investigate different topics such as gender and its role in regards of
choosing an education. The primary focus of this paper will be on young people, how they
can or cannot position themselves into different kinds of educational fields. There is a
societal tendency in Denmark to focus on equality, yet Denmark are actually amongst the
most divided according to gender in our educational system. Some educations are largely
dominated by one gender only. The project will throughout use concepts such as identity and
concepts from poststructuralism. Some of the included concepts are discourses, expectations
of the genders will be primary topics for discussion. A big inspiration for this project has
been from the poststructuralist Judith Butler. The project has been influenced by Butler
because of the different subjects which we cover within the project. Another big influence is
the sociologist Richard Jenkins and how he explains identity. The inclusion of Jenkins’ is to
have some contrast and make a possible explanation as to why and how we understand each
other. This will lead to a mix of an analysis and discussion of gender’s role of young people
and their choice of education.
