Studenteropgave: Basisprojekt

The purpose of this project is to examine what romantic love is, and if jealousy is an inevitable part of it. We will begin by establishing some theoretic assumptions on what romantic love is and how it is defined through an evolutionary, a psychological, a phenomenological and lastly a cultural approach. These four approaches will again be used to explain and define what jealousy is. We will then analyze the different arguments established by the different theorists, on their individual assumptions on respectively romantic love and jealousy. The analysis will be constructed first and foremost by finding the overall claims which rely on the different messages of the theories. Thereafter we will examine the different premises of each theory that are linked to the main arguments, and from this find out what the conclusions of the theories are. We use this method to clarify how the different theories explain what romantic love and jealousy is, and to help us compare the different theories with each other, thus making differences and similarities clearer. The overall conclusions and premises of the different theories will then be either rejected or confirmed through a discussion. We will furthermore discuss different issues on romantic love and jealousy, where we will compare the different conclusions and premises of the theories. This will be done in order to find out how jealousy and love are linked to each other. We will reach the overall conclusion that jealousy is an inevitable part of romantic love.
