Abstrakt

On November 19th 2013, Anne Sophia Hermansen demanded men’s rights to ‘judicial abortion in a blog post. This was the beginning of a debate regarding men’s possibilities to renounce, both the rights to and the responsibility for, their biological offspring. This project aims to account for the nature of the debate concerning the ‘juridical abortion’ and the reasons why it has not received much attention in the political arena. The analysis is based on a number of Danish newspaper articles published in 2013 - 2014. Which are subsequently analysed in the light of concepts and theories from respectively Pierre Bourdieu, Judith Butler, Arlie Hochschild and Luc Boltanski. The conclusion of this project is that the demand for juridical abortion for men arises as a consequence of series of societal tendencies stressing the emancipation of the individual from societal constraints. The project argues that the demand to juridical abortion ought to be rejected because the interest of the child outweighs that of men’s demand for equality.
