This study examines how the danish movement Venligboerne articulates 'refugees' in selected danish news articles. We will investigate if and in what degree the articulations of Venligboerne contributes to a dichotomy between 'us' and 'them'. In this particularly study 'us' refers to Venligboerne and 'them' refers to refugees. Furthermore we will analyze which underlying discourses in the articulations from Venligboerne are manifested around the refugees in Denmark. These discourses are investigated through discourse and critical discourse analysis. The discourses are also identified through different analytical terms which help us investigate if and how Venligboerne reproduce a power-relation between Venligboerne and the refugees. Additionally the articulations are analyzed through a theory which focuses on how articulations, in almost every way, will produce and reproduce an 'us/them'-dichotomy no matter the intention. Our analysis leads to a discussion on whether or not it is possible to mention a group without producing or reproducing an 'us/them'-dichotomy.
Furthermore the study will contain a brief discussion concerning the media's' influence on the articulations in news articles, and if they help producing and reproducing an 'us/them'-dichotomy.
This study concludes that Venligboerne, despite great effort, maintains an 'us/them'-dichotomy - since it is inevitable to even mention refugees without reproducing the 'us/them'-dichotomy no matter whether the articulation is negative or positive.
