The following exposed research is based on a case study that was decided to be developed focusing on the online dating app called Tinder. The starting point for the development of this project, has been to establish an hypothesis based on a correlation between the two variables of Social Interaction and Digital Space. Our primary aim was to find out if there was a correlation between the increase of Digital Space and the decrease of Social Interaction, between youngsters aged 16 to 24 years old in Copenhagen. The most accurate way of answering this hypothesis, was by developing a Focus Group and gaining first-hand data from our Targets. This idea, ended up stated as the following research question ; If the Digital Space is increasing, are the Social Interactions between youngsters aged 16 to 24 years old in Copenhagen then decreasing by the use of Tinder? Subsequently, two sub-questions were formulated according to each theory used, When looking for meeting new people, in which aspects can the usage of Tinder change individual’s behavior as online users? relating to our interpretation of Panopticon theory and If interpreting Cyberspace as a reality, how does youngsters in Copenhagen aged 16 to 24 years old understand this term? connected to Cyberspace theory. After building up a solid base of knowledge within the field of online dating englobing different academic literature, specific terms and concepts were chosen to investigate more in order to gain a more precise interpretation of the meaning. We conduct a qualitative method research with a Sociological approach and Planning, Space and resources perspective. An analysis followed by a discussion has been developed finishing with a conclusion in order to gain a final justified overview of the outcome.
