Abstrakt

This paper describes how feminist pornography first came to be and how it has developed through time with the waves of feminism. The purpose of this research is to identify certain criteria and different perspectives of feminist pornography and see if it can be understood as a form of activism. The area is examined from a critical perspective throughout, within a sociological framework. Porn has always been a major debate among feminists either seen as a clear violation against women while other consider it a way for women to express and embrace their own sexuality. In an industry where male voices are usually dominant, feminism raises a whole new argument. To support our argument the writings of Judith Butler and Julia Long have been essential to us they have helped us in understanding both the historical context of feminism as well as forming our theoretical framework. The findings showed that feminism can be understood as political activism as a form of free speech and elaborated through different manifestos of feminist porn. Feminist porn is an evolution generated through the deployment of performative identities displayed in cultural performances, acting as counterspeech in order to dismantle the heterosexual matrix and will continue developing as well as other forms of feminist activism.
