Intuitiv Erkendelse

Studenteropgave: Semesterprojekt

This project examines the concept of intuition and how it can be used. Based on the rationalization that characterizes our western, postmodern society we wish to present an alternative way of think-ing and living through intuitive thinking. Our two main objectives are to understand the concept of intuition and also how it can be used. First of all, we wish to describe the concept of intuition of the following philosophers in a historical con-text: Descartes, Spinoza, Kant, Bergson and Heidegger. The purpose of this is to understand the historical and philosophical meanings of intuition in order to understand how it can be used. Second of all, we wish to explore how Otto Scharmer’s Theory U can be used as an intuitive meth-od in order to perceive our society’s rationally driven societal structures and way of thinking. Last-ly, we wish to discuss the inherent possibilities and consequences of intuitive thinking through The-ory U. Our work with this project has resulted in the following conclusions: The philosophical and psychological views of intuition described in this project, reflect the diverse meanings of intuition as a concept. Therefore we are not able to provide one conclusive definition of the word. However by following the five elements in Theory U, we can use intuitive thinking to free our-selves from the grasp of the rational and materialistic constructions in our society. While the validi-ty of Theory U has been questioned, we believe it contains the potential to create change and help eradicate the problems of our postmodern society. The majority of the understandings of intuition presented in this project include a clear separation of intuition and rationality. However we wish to pose the question of whether these concepts may overlap and could perhaps support each other rather than oppose each other.
