The purpose of this assignment is to illustrate the integration of refugees in Denmark, and investigate which fundamentally factors that are necessary to achieve successful integration. Additionally, the assignment examines the problems refugees experience during their integration in the Danish society. To elucidate the processes and problematics that occur regarding integration, the assignment uses the following theorists; Ole Hammer, Ruth Emerek, Jürgen Habermas, Charlotte Hamburger and Axel Honneth. In this project the theories will be applied to analyse the three terms; work, language, and recognition in relation to integration.
These theories and terms are selected based on the empirical data collected for this assignment. The empirical data reports that these three terms are essential to achieve successful integration. The empirical data in this project are collected interviews with; a Syrian refugee Mohammed Ebo, a Chinese refugee Marion Chen, a political spokesman of integration Holger K. Nielsen and a council employee from Frederikssund municipality. These interviews are processed based on the above-mentioned theorists.
The assignment discusses which solutions and problematics the three terms have in the integration process using different perspectives. Furthermore, the project discusses the overlooked elements in the debate concerning integration of refugees.
The conclusion of the assignment shows that integration is undefinable. It also shows the many different interpretations concerning the three terms.
