Studenteropgave: Semesterprojekt

The project’s main focus is the Nokia group and its development of the Windows Phone Lumia. The Nokia group has not managed to enter the smartphone market , which has resulted in the group’s unsatisfying economic situation. To illustrate the smartphone market, this project compares Nokia with the competitor, Apple, as Nokia has attempted to create a similar product concept with the Windows Lumia Phone. The scientific study concept of critical realism has been used in the interpretation of the issues presented in the project. The composition of the project includes the paradigms of the contractor/developer/ engineer as well as the technological and the strategic paradigm. Furthermore, we have used the theory of a strategic alliance and the innovational phases that describe the innovative processes that Nokia has went through. To support the theory, the empirical research is based on interviews with present and previous employees at Nokia, and annual report. The annual report analysis shows Nokia’s financial situation, which supports the group’s development over the past years. In addition, the project explores the strategic choice of Microsoft as Nokia’s cooperational partner.
