Studenteropgave: Semesterprojekt

In this project our focus has been on the inclusion of pupils with specific needs in public schools of Denmark. Our phraseology of the problem goes: How does the inclusion of pupils with specific needs express itself in our singled out Danish general public school class? How far does the guidelines and granted resources agree with the intension of inclusion of pupils with specific needs? The Danish government presented in 2012 a law reform stating that 96% of all pupils attending public schools was to, in some way, shape or form, be included in the general public classes by the time of the year 2015. This sounded, of our opinion, like a goal likely not to be achieved properly with the means provided by the government. To figure out the consequences of including pupils with specific needs in general public schools, we decided to do one day of observations in a 5th grade on a singled out school for subsequent analysis - and as a an extension hence researching the handling of the inclusion by the municipality in question. Employment of the theories, Sociology of Education by Pierre Bourdieu and Stigma by Erving Goffman has made the foundation of our analysis of, and basis for, the observations. As involvement of Political Science we have included a discussion of whether we find the handling of the policy process by the Danish government suitable in the process of implementation of the law reform. Amongst other things, that the power to assail it has been repudiated to the municipalities. Another part of the discussion had its basis in the opinions from Anne Vang (S) and Ditte Dalum Christoffersens (Ph.D. stud. Psychology and educations studies RUC) about the investments required for a successful inclusion of pupils with specific needs. We have reached the conclusion that school that includes pupils with specific needs is the best solution for all parts affected. This does however require that the specific needs as in further education of teachers, room for dissimilarity and a number of other adjustments will be taken in consideration and acted in accordance with.
