Studenteropgave: Masterprojekt

Abstrakt

This paper approaches informality by looking at the grey zone that exists in the Ghanaian gold mining industry. It approaches this by a GPN mapping of actors that exist in this network. Labor has always been the focus regarding informality. However, the product being investigated has yet to be given the same level priority by academics. The paper attempts to trace and follow a product and its intersections with formal/informal phases. The paper has found that informality exists at all levels of the global production network, due to labor, power configurations and regulation. It gives suggestions for further research on key issues identified in the chapter.
