In the year of 2010 Denmark had begun the process of reducing the period of unemployment cash benefits from 4 years halved to 2 years. This project investigates the effects on the individual coming from enduring unemployment, due to the theory of unemployment having a greater importance to the individual. Based on the theories of Axel Honneth, Brinkmann and Richard Sennett, this project will further investigate how the structural handling of unemployment exercised by the Danish government affects the unemployed individual. This paper includes the interviews of 3 women asking about their experiences being unemployed, concerning the emotional impact. The interviews lead to the conclusion that their unemployment has had a negative impact on their selfesteem as well as their social life.
