The aim of this project, is to examine how the participation of the youth, can qualify the planning process of the city centre of Værløse. Værløse is a smaller city in the northern part of Zealand and their city centre is currently in the process of being renewed and redefined. To answer the problem formulation, the project will touch upon the following subjects: An examination of the different opportunities in which the youth can contribute to the planning and its results. To examine how planners should plan and execute such a process and to give the youth a voice by exposing their ideas, visions, and demands for a future city centre. We will answer these questions by using qualitative data such as individual and focus-group-interviews. Our analytic approach is interpretative and at the same time we have a normative understanding of the planning field, which is build on a critical, approach. In contribution to this, we will make use of Communicative and empowerment planning theories. The project shows that the current planning process is not wide and inclusive enough to fit the youth. To get full advantage of the youth and their resources, a new and more inclusive planning process has to be invented. Here the youth has a key role. They need to help define this process to make it fit their needs and demands. If successful, our study shows, that the participation of the youth can have a wide range of positive effects on the city centre, the city of Værløse and it's citizens.
